X.25 and Link Network Security Systems
The Cipher X 850 is a versatile family of network security solutions for X.25 and point-to-point data applications up to 64 Kbps. The Cipher X® 850 uses TCC's highly secure proprietary algorithm for international applications. The Cipher X family is on-line today protecting large, global network communications from eavesdropping, alteration and misuse.
The Cipher X 850 is available in synchronous and asynchronous link encryption models, and in protocol sensitive models. Similarity across the Cipher X family makes training and installation easy for hybrid networks.
High grade encryption and automated key management combine to form a strategic security system that provides decades of protection. The system has sophisticated anti-tamper protection and MedecoTM keylocks to prevent physical compromise.
Cipher X security places the control and responsibility in the network manager's hands. From a central site, the network manager can control the key and device management of an entire network. TCC's KEYNETTM system accomplishes this simply and securely. Once installed, security is virtually transparent to the user.

X.25 Security
The protocol sensitive (PS) model is a security overlay for X.25 networks. The Cipher X passes the addressing information in the clear, encrypts the user data, and recalculates the checksum. No network access or modification is required. Protocol sensitive encryption, or end-to-end encryption, offers many benefits over link encryption.
- Up to 80% fewer units needed
- Secured information from source to destination
- No network modification
Each Cipher X can support up to 254 simultaneous virtual circuits. An entire department or building may be protected by a single Cipher X. Each virtual circuit has its own key and its own secure channel.
Link Encryption
Dedicated and leased lines are often used to carry very sensitive information on a 24-hour a day basis. This communication can be protected with the Cipher X 850PT (protocol transparent) models. This Cipher X security protects the secrecy of the information, but also prevents an adversary from inserting false information (spoofing) into the dedicated line.
Centralized Management
A network of hundreds or thousands of Cipher X units may be centrally managed on-line with KEYNET or off-line with the Crypto Management System (CMS). These systems save money and enhance the security of the network by eliminating the need for user action, couriers and security auditors. Security is now automated.
The KEYNET system allows access to all the security, maintenance and management functions at a single site. Integrated database technology is used with approved key management methods to make managing large networks simple. An entire network may be rekeyed with a couple of commands.
Autopoll and specific diagnostic commands provide a view of the security status of the network. When errors and alarms are found a unit can be reconfigured, brought off-line or completely reinitialized.
Quality
TCC is ISO 9001 certified. ISO 9001, granted to TCC by TUV, is the most stringent standard available for total quality systems in design/development, production, installation and servicing.
