WINS NEW CONTRACTS FOR ENCRYPTED DEFENSE COMMUNICATIONS

CONCORD, MA (December 29, 1999) - Technical Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:TCCO) today announced that it has received two contracts, totaling approximately $1 million, for the delivery of its DSD72A-SP bulk encryption system. The contracts were awarded by two foreign countries and will provide secure communications equipment for their air defense systems. Delivery of the equipment will occur in the first quarter of fiscal 2000.

Carl Guild, President and CEO stated that "TCC is pleased that we have again been selected to secure the critical communications for national defense systems. Both of these customers are new and further expand the number of countries that rely on TCC encryption technology for their mission-critical communications. We believe that these initial contracts will be followed by subsequent procurements as the deployments expand."
