Technical Communications Announces an Award

for a Secure Communications System Expansion

CONCORD, MA (December 28, 2000) - Technical Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:TCCO) today announced that it has been awarded a contract for a major expansion of a South American government’s secure communications system. The contract, valued at $700,000, will provide and deploy TCC’s CSD-3324E Secure Telephone, Fax and Data desktop system to the government’s critical communications locations. This deployment will increase the government’s system by 30% and continues the network expansion that is progressively linking the mission-critical elements of the government.

TCC’s CSD-3324E is part of the Commanders Net family of communication products that provide fully interoperable, highly secure communications between the telephone system and field radios in the land, air and naval elements of the government. The Commanders Network System is well regarded for providing reliable secure communications even in the harshest and most threatening environments.

George Camp, TCC’s Regional Sales Manager for South America said, "Our excellent performance with the currently deployed system gives the customer confidence in expanding their network and we expect that this expansion will continue for both the field and office agencies. Governments are requiring increased direct communications with the field forces for both civilian and military activities. This will continue to drive expansion of our secure communications networks."

Carl Guild, TCC’s President and CEO, commented, " This project was one of several that have been delayed due to national budget issues and we are pleased that it has been released with the award to TCC. Introduction and expansion of these critical foreign communications networks is a principal focus of TCC as it provides expanded market positions for both of our Office and CipherONE™ Network products."

The Commanders Net System is used in over thirty countries for high security communications over the existing telephone and radio networks. A principal feature of the system is its scalability as the deployment requirements expand and its capability to operate over weak or marginal network lines.

TCC has delivered the equipment required for this contract during December, 2000.
